As educators we want to solve every problem and help every child. If it takes all our time, energy, and money we will find a way. We stay long extra hours after dismissal and we try to go in on weekends. But we have to remember to take the time for OUR family.
As a previous administrator I dreaded the days we had substitutes. I knew it was a day I would have no extra time in the office or getting paperwork done. However, I learned quickly that if I allow our educators to take the time for family— it made them better educators. Often I would strongly advise them to take the time and most of the time they were grateful that I did. If it cost me a day out of the office and in classrooms, that was okay. It made me appreciate them and it made we value being an educator.
