We all have our days that we have had enough. We are frustrated with ourselves, administration, parents, kids, and our peer. Things are not going your way. When you get to this point- and we all do- you have to know when to tap out.
When I talk about “ tapping out” I am not thinking quitting or throwing in the towel. I am talking about simply saying “I need a minute” , “I don’t feel well today”, “Can I just got get a soda or a cup of coffee.” We tell our students everyday that “we can’t read your minds“, or “to talk to me”, or “tell me what is wrong.” It is important that we use this love language with our peers and colleagues. And when they ask—find the time to help. Step in and watch the class for a minute so they can go get a soda or coffee. Take the hard kiddo for fifteen minutes and allow them to catch their breath. Administrators get out of the office and make sure your teachers are okay. Remember you were once in their shoes. A ten minute break can make all the difference to a person.
